Description
Highcliff is a new holiday home, located on a small lane next to a National Trust woodland, and set atop a steeply sloping site with views out towards the Jurassic Coast.
The new house replaced an existing set of dilapidated buildings on the site, and makes reference to the previous buildings through it’s design as a single storey structure with a mixture of pitched and flat roofs. It is clad externally with a mixture of black painted timber and light pink render that replicates the historic building previously on site. Roof are a mixture of sedum and anthrazinc.
The site present a complicated structural challenge, with part of the building supporting the lane running alongside, and the ground dropping away steeply. This was overcome through the use of retaining walls in tandem with a lightweight steel and time frame structure.
Entered via a set of steps from road level, the house features a large open plan living, dining and kitchen space, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, with a continuous external terrace running the full length of the house.
Internally, the plywood roof structure is expressed and walls are left as a polished plaster finish. Floors throughout are a micro-cement finish.
The property can be rented for holidays via Unique Homestays www.uniquehomestays.com +44(0) 1637 881183 - under the name 'Fjall'.
