Description
This new home replaces a tired Edwardian house which has sat vacant on this plot for a number of years.
The remote site is surrounded by trees and ancient woodland and slopes heavily from North to South, with a plateau where the existing house sits. The design approach has been highly considerate, taking care to protect the existing trees, ecology and natural landscape - the new building sits below the ridge of the existing house.
The upper volume is a lightweight timber clad box, while the lower part consists of a solid masonry plinth, finished in a pale white brick. The design employs a strong horizontal language to minimise the buildings mass and scale. Projecting rooflines and walkways create leading lines that draw the eye across the valley and into the woodland, enhancing the site’s expansive vistas rather than obscuring them.
A planning application has been submitted in Autumn 2024.
