Description
This site is located between the end of two terraces in North London, and previous contained a dilapidated garage.
MortonScarr were executive Architects for the construction of this new brick-built house, which was designed to appear as a single storey structure from the street, before dropping away inside to become a 2 bedroom house with a small garden.
The whole site had to be excavated down to a lower level, and challenging temporary works were completed to make sure the surrounding roads were supported, and residents of the nearby flats could still have access safely.
The design of the house includes slot windows that are framed in pre-cast concrete and orientated to avoid looking into nearby homes, whilst large frameless rooflights set into a sedum roof bring natural light into the house.
Internally, a bathroom and two bedrooms are located at street level, with a feature top-lit oak staircase that connects down to an open plan living, kitchen and dining space at lower ground floor.
Construction started in March 2020, and the project was finished on time in 2021.
