Description
Built in the late 19th Century, from locally sourced granite and slate the Housel Bay Hotel sits atop a cliff located on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall.
MortonScarr were approached to design a scheme to extend and remodel the hotel with two things in mind; firstly, to modernise the hotel in a manner that is both respectful to its location within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and befitting of the hotel that is synonymous with The Lizard. Secondly, increasing the number of rooms without altering the appearance of the hotel too drastically.
The proposed works include replacing a 1970’s conservatory, with a new larger contemporary glazed extension that opens fully to the hotel’s grounds and the private cove below. The addition of full-length glazed balconies to central rooms at the first and second floors, will provide guests a place to enjoy the views from the privacy of their rooms. The addition of six new rooms within the roof, ensure that we are maximising everything that the hotel has to offer. The two south facing rooms within the wings, will have sheltered private balconies and the rooms within the central section of roof are designed around three dormers that provide uninterrupted panoramic views out to the Atlantic Ocean.
